In trade with the LA Galaxy on July 19, 2006 in exchange for FCD's 4th Round 2007 Supplemental Draft pick.

Professional

2008: Appeared in 25 games, the most since he made 26 appearances in 2004 as a member of the LA Galaxy…Matched his career-high of two assists set in 2007…Scored the second goal of his career on Oct. 18 at Real Salt Lake…his lone previous goal came on Sept. 25, 2005 while with the Galaxy… Started 16 games in a defensive midfield role and seven games on the left side of the midfield… Forced to sit out the season finale due to red card suspension, Saragosa underwent surgery on Oct. 21 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.

2007: Suffered a sprained right MCL on 4/12 vs LA which kept him out of action for 4 weeks…Made first appearance since injury as a second half sub in 2-1 win at KC on 5/12…Started first game since injury in 3-1 win vs. LA on 6/9…Was replaced after 12 minutes into 2-0 win over CHV on 7/4 after sustaining another right knee injury…Started and went the distance in USOC victories on 7/9 and 8/7…Started all three SuperLiga matches on 7/24, 7/28 and 7/31…Assisted on Ruiz's game-tying goal vs. Columbus on 8/11 and received first red card of his MLS career minutes later…Was placed on season-ending injury list on August 23 and underwent surgery to repair the torn meniscus on September 25…The team was 9-1-3 in his 13 regular season appearances, and 4-11-2 without.

2006: Started 10 of the first 15 games for the LA Galaxy before having his rights traded to Dallas in July…on the day he was acquired, played the final 18 minutes and scored the second goal in 2-0 win vs. Tigres in the first-leg of the Rio Grande Plate on 7/19…Made his FCD MLS debut on 7/22 @ RSL…Made his first start with Dallas on 8/12 @ HOU…started but received second yellow card of the game in the 74th min. of the 3-0 loss to Houston in the Open Cup Quarterfinals on 8/23…It was the first time in his career that he had been shown a red card…Missed 1-0 loss @ KC on 8/27, the 2-0 win @ COL on 8/30 and the 1-0 win vs. HOU on 9/2 because of an Achilles injury.

2005: Loaned by Sao Paolo to first-division side Nautico, where he played for four months before returning to Sao Paolo…the LA Galaxy then purchased him from Sao Paolo in August, and he returned to play in four reg. season games, two playoff games, and in the U.S. Open Cup Final, where the Galaxy defeated FC Dallas…Also won the MLS Cup with LA that season…scored his first MLS goal in 2-1 win vs. KC on 9/25.

2004: Loaned from Brazilian-powerhouse Sao Paolo to the Los Angeles Galaxy, after being scouted by then-Galaxy assistant coach Martin Vasquez…started 24 of the 26 he played in…his one-year loan ended following the season, and returned to Sao Paolo when the Galaxy could not pick up his buy out option.

1998-2003: Made his first team debut with Sao Paolo as an 18-year old versus Santos, entering in the second half as a right back…joined the Sao Paolo youth system as a 13 year old…at age 12, joined club Portuegessa, where he played for one year before being sought out by Sao Paolo to join their club…was on Sao Paolo's U-20 team that participated in the 2001 Dallas Cup…the team won the quarterfinal game, but after a fight broke out with Monterrey following the game, the Sao Paolo coach refused to keep playing, so the players spent three days shopping in Dallas before returning to Brazil.

Is the middle of five siblings - two older brothers, one younger brother, and one younger sister…father was a Colonel in the Brazilian Army and later practiced dentistry...prior to joining his first youth team, was also a handball player that was selected to his regional squad...had to chose between handball and soccer at age 12, when he began his fully-concentrated soccer career...was also a competitive ping-pong player - one of the youngest members of the Santa Catarina state-team, earning 100 Reals for being part of the team...likes to play PSP and computer video games, such as Winning XI, Counter Strike, Call of Duty, and American Arms...is a devoted Christian, and likes to listen to the music of Michael W. Smith…while together at Sao Paolo, Marcelo lived with Brazilian and AC Milan star midfielder Kaká and his family...their friendship has remained strong as each served as each other's best man in their respective weddings...attributes his Christian faith to Kaká, a fellow Christian, who would take Marcelo with him to church while living together as youths...wears # 5 because it is the starting defensive midfielder's number in Brazil…was given nickname "Gallo", which means rooster, because of his hair….while at Sao Paolo, met his wife Carolina, who was a volleyball player at the club...the couple have a son, Matheus.
