On January 14, 2005 from the San Jose Earthquakes along with Richard Mulrooney, SJ's 6th overall pick (used on Drew Moor) and 29th overall pick (traded to Chicago) in the 2005 SuperDraft for Brad Davis, an allocation and the 4th overall pick in 2005. SJ used the 4th pick to select midfielder Danny O'Rourke, while Chicago used the 29th pick to select forward Chris Rolfe.Drafted by San Jose in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft - 2nd Round (13th Overall). San Jose had acquired that pick from Kansas City in exchange for defender Jimmy Conrad.
