E. RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- After coming back to equalize twice in its Sunday matinee against the New York Red Bulls, FC Dallas gave up an 88th-minute goal to Juan Pablo Angel, his second of the game, and lost 3-2 to Major League Soccer's last overall club, who played the final 30 minutes with 10 men following defender Kevin Goldthwaite's red card for violent conduct.

Dax McCarty and former Red Bulls midfielder Dave van den Bergh got the goals for Dallas, which remains on 23 points after 22 games. FCD also remains in seventh place in the Western Conference.

New York's win was its first since May 8. The victory snapped a 13-match winless stretch for the hosts, who were playing their first game under interim coach Richie Williams following Juan Carlos Osorio's resignation on Friday. Williams filled the same role for the club following Mo Johnston's departure in 2006.

New York opened the scoring just four minutes in. Following an FC Dallas turnover in midfield, Red Bulls playmaker Albert Celades sent a looping pass over the visitors' backline to a streaking Angel.

The Colombian striker spotted Dario Sala coming off his line and deftly one-touched the bouncing ball over the 'keeper's head and into the vacated goal, giving the hosts an early lead.

Dallas responded 15 minutes later. Forward Jeff Cunningham chased down a hopeful long pass into the corner, where New York's Goldthwaite could only get a slight touch on the ball.

With the defender out of the play, Cunningham collected, looked up and put a perfect cross onto the head of midfielder McCarty. From about 15 yards, the former North Carolina standout easily nodded past Danny Cepero to even the score at 1-1.

It only took the Red Bulls eight minutes to regain the lead. Dane Richards got the goal, but Wolyniec made it happen with a nifty cut between Dallas defenders Kyle Davies and captain Pablo Ricchetti. After doing the hard work, Wolyniec simply slid the ball over for Richards to redirect home.

The Red Bulls' physical striking combo of Wolyniec and Angel caused the FC Dallas defense fits all afternoon.

Wolyniec had the first chance of the contest just seconds after kickoff. Left back Danleigh Borman found the native New Yorker's head with a pinpoint cross, but Wolyniec sent his effort well wide from about 12 yards.

For Dallas, Cunningham was the main danger man. Before setting up his team's goal, he created the visitors' first scoring opportunity in the opening minutes when he put Brek Shea in on goal with a brilliant through pass, only to see the youngster miss the target.

Through the continued effort of Wolyniec and Angel, who New York looked more likely to score during the first 15 minutes of the second half. But Goldthwaite gave Dallas a chance to get back into the game when he was sent off for lashing out at FCD substitute Andre Rocha during a routine scrum in the Red Bulls box.

With the man advantage, it seemed inevitable that FC Dallas would tie it up again. In the 73rd minute, they did. Van den Bergh, who helped lead the hosts to their first-ever MLS Cup Final last season, got Dallas' second, hitting a beautiful left-footed shot pat Cepero off a pass from McCarty.

But Dallas let the leap slip away in the final minutes when Angel tapped a rebound past Sala following substitute Mac Kandji's long-range drive.

After a bye week, FCD returns to Pizza Hut Park to play D.C. United on Sept. 5. Their next two games after that are on the road (vs. Los Angeles and Kansas City), where FC Dallas is just 1-7-3 this season.
