Hernandez called to U.S. U-20 team
Hoops midfielder will join team in Spain
Including Lambo and Wallace, the U-20 roster boasts nine professional players who play in seven different leagues around the world, including: Italy, England, Germany, Belgium, Mexico, Portugal, and the United States (Major League Soccer). Hernandez is one of five domestically-based youth players, all of which play for clubs from the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
A Dallas-native and graduate of Seagoville High School, the 18-year-old Hernandez has been part of the FC Dallas Youth system since July 2006, and was one of the original 15 players invited to join the FC Dallas Juniors Program. A member of the FC Dallas Juniors U-18 team, the central midfielder tallied the lone goal on Oct. 25 in a 1-0 win over Solar SC.
Hernandez becomes the second player from the FC Dallas Juniors program to be called in to a U.S. Soccer Youth team. FCD Juniors U-16 forward Alex Molano joined the U.S. U-17 Residency Program in Florida in September.
Lambo, 17, was selected by FC Dallas with the 8th pick in the First Round of the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. He appeared in seven Reserve Division games during his rookie season, and made two appearances on the 18-man first-team roster.
Wallace, the team's First Round selection in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft (9th overall), made five appearances with the first team in 2008, including four starts. He was also on the 18-man roster on 10 other occasions.
The U-20 Men's National Team is preparing for CONCACAF Under-20 World Cup qualifying, which will take place in Trinidad early in 2009.
