Sueño MLS '08: "The Dream Continues"

FC Dallas Media Relations
FRISCO, Texas -- Two thousand aspiring soccer players will try out for the FC Dallas coaching staff this weekend as they follow their dreams of becoming a professional soccer player in the nationally televised open tryouts, Sueño MLS: "The Dream Continues." After a successful launch of Sueño MLS last weekend with Chivas USA in California, the scene now turns to Pizza Hut Park, where from Friday, February 22 to Monday, February 25 players from 40 states and numerous countries will try to impress the FCD staff while being followed by Univision's top-rated weekly sports magazine show, República Deportiva.

Built by The Home Depot, Sueño MLS is a six-week long quest to find the best undiscovered young soccer player in the nation. Sueño MLS, kicked off President's Day weekend with four days of open tryouts at the Bell Gardens Sports Center, home to Chivas USA's academy and youth teams, in the city of Bell Gardens, Calif.

The competition begins this Friday, Feb. 22 at Pizza Hut Park, where FC Dallas head coach Steve Morrow and his staff including Jorge Alvial, Marco Ferruzzi and Drew Keeshan, will oversee the tryouts. FCD's Director of Youth Player Development, Chris Clarke, along with coaches from the FC Dallas Youth program will assist the coaching staff throughout event, and FC Dallas players will also be present throughout the tryout process as "guest scouts." With the tryouts occurring at Pizza Hut Park, participants will have the unique opportunity to watch FCD practices throughout the weekend, including a preseason game as FCD faces West Texas A&M on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 10:30 a.m. CT on the stadium field.

The coaching staff for each MLS club will invite 60 players per city back to a second tryout on Saturday, March 1. After the round of 60, "The Final 18" of each team will be selected and subsequently compete on March 8-9 and March 15 for a chance to train with the respective MLS team, and possibly earn a roster spot.

Sueño MLS returns to Republica Deportiva every Sunday at 10 a.m. CT in what can be termed as a unique "reality show within a show" format. The show will culminate with the announcement of the Sueño MLS winner on Sunday, March 30, just hours before the start of the MLS season on Univision network TeleFutura between FC Dallas and Chivas USA live from Pizza Hut Park at 2 p.m. CT.
